Summary:
Under general supervision of the Facilities Manager, maintains toll plaza and Pacifica building infrastructure to ensure a safe and healthy workplace and reliable functioning of the day-to-day business operations and toll collection systems. The position performs journey level, multi-craft building services such as preventive maintenance and corrective repairs of mechanical, electrical, auxiliary generator and plumbing systems, modular furniture relocations, carpentry, interior and exterior painting and perform other work as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Provides overall maintenance of toll plaza and Pacifica building system infrastructure to ensure consistent day to day business operations and toll collections.
- Performs first call response for troubleshooting of heating, ventilation and cooling systems, to include time clock and set point control adjustments and replacements of faulty thermostats and fan belts.
- Provides maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems up to 480 volts; monitors computer room circuit loads and installs additional circuits as needed.
- Carries out monthly testing, maintenance, and repairs of auxiliary generator systems.
- Provides maintenance of plumbing systems to include standard repair and replacement of leaking fixtures and water heaters, clearing of obstructed waste lines and performing as needed, modifications to water supply and sanitary waste systems.
- Performs carpentry tasks such as drywall installation, repair and texturing, cabinet and countertop replacement and door hardware adjustments and replacements.
- Provides modular furniture repairs and relocations, moving of office furniture, hanging artwork and pictures and general office maintenance.
- Completes web-based work orders, monthly AQMD generator maintenance logs, toll plaza building inspections, orders supplies and equipment, and promotes work place safety.
- Requires on call, 24/7, stand by duty one to two weeks per month.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Approximately 10 years of progressively responsible experience in building and mechanical repair work.
Required Licenses and/or Certifications:
Valid Class C California Driver’s License combined with a clean driving record.
Required Knowledge of:
Thorough knowledge of the use of basic hand and power tools, materials, methods, terminology, universal hazardous waste disposal and OSHA workplace safety practices used in the building and mechanical trades.
Skills/Abilities:
- Perform a variety of skilled duties pertinent to assignment.
- Maintain tools, machinery and equipment in good repair and condition.
- Do strenuous manual labor.
- Ability to read and apply the knowledge from technical and maintenance manuals, and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
- Make arithmetic calculations when required.
- Work cooperatively with other TCA departments and outside contractors to move work assignments toward successful completion in a timely manner.
- Interpret and apply policies, procedures, and rules.
- Operate a service truck to travel to toll road facility locations.

Mental Demands:
While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to troubleshoot and solve problems under stressful situations and with minimal supervision such as during unplanned power outages, critical electrical failures in server rooms and auxiliary generator mechanical failures.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to perform considerable heavy physical activity including heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job. Employees are required to follow extensive safety precautions and the proper use of personal protective equipment. Work requires daily operation of a service truck to drive to various toll facility locations.
Working Conditions:
Work involves exposure to dangerous and unusual elements such as extreme outdoor temperatures, working near live roadway traffic at toll plaza ramps, working on ladders, toxic chemicals, hazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke and/or loud noises.
